Chai Tea

My new after workout drink filled with health benefits that just so happens to taste yummy.

3 cups water

1 1/4 cups milk

1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract

2 inch pc of ginger, peeled and sliced

4 whole cloves or 1 tsp ground cloves

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp cardamom

1 star anise pod

8 oolong tea bags


Combine water and milk in a saucepan over medium low heat.

Add ginger.

Then the spice packet. I wrapped it in cheese cloth then placed it in a tea holder.

Stir in vanilla.

Let mixture come to a simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. While this is happening, let’s discuss star anise. So pretty. They smell like a mild black licorice so one is plenty for the taste.

Turn stove heat up to medium and bring to a boil. Once mixture is boiling, throw in tea bags, cover and remove from heat. Wait 4 minutes.

Drain mixture through a fine mesh strainer. Refrigerate for up to a day or serve over ice ASAP.
