Shirley Temples Minus The Red Dye #40

I try to not ingest anything that I am unable to enunciate or find in nature. It’s still a work in progress, but I know the  grenadine you find in the store is loaded with the unpronouncable. Since my baby boo loves Shirley Temples, we are making homemade grenadine for her drink.

32 oz of pure cherry juice

1/2 cup sugar (if you want it sweeter, add more sugar the original recipe suggested 2 cups)

lemon lime seltzer water to serve and orange slices to garnish

Pour juice into a pan and bring to a boil over medium heat.

We are going to make a reduction. What that means is, we are going to boil for 25 minutes to thicken and intensify the flavor of the juice. Look at you learning cooking lingo!

Once 25 minutes has passed remove from heat, it’s time to add the sugar. Like I said above, add as much sugar as you prefer. I kind of like the idea of a tart drink instead of a sweet one. Stir well.

Assemble your cups and fill them with ice.

Fill with the seltzer water.

Add some of your fresh grenadine.

Stir, add a straw and slurp away.

If you wanna sauce it up, add some rum. Love it!
